Moses Shapiro's naturalization petition

The original petition gives Moses’s occupation as rabbi [HIGH], birth at Wolozin on June 7, 1878 (while family sources and his matzeivah place his birth on Sukkos 5640, fall 1879), and arrival aboard the Lituania on September 6, 1923. It dates his marriage to Chaje at Alsedzia as April 4, 1903, conflicting with the authoritative register date of February 14, 1903 Old Style / 30 Shevat 5663. It says all children lived at 1735 Sterling Place except Simcha, who was living in Lithuania [HIGH], confirming Simcha alive there in 1936.

The petition joins the European marriage, the family's 1920s arrivals, and the American household in one sworn record.
