Teller and Schenker

A family tree maintained by Yankel Teller preserves the line from the Kempler and Schnitzer families to the Schenker and Teller households.

1

The Schenker-Teller household

The family tree records Reizel Schnitzer as the wife of Akiva Schenker. Their daughter Rivka Leah, known as Lola Schenker, married Yosef Mattisyahu Teller, son of Yaakov and Elka Teller. The tree associates the Teller family with a place written as “Dzepenick.” Related family correspondence and cemetery material point toward Rzepiennik in Poland, but that place identification is still unproven.

2

Names preserved by the family

Yankel Teller's repeated yahrzeit notices preserve Lola's Hebrew name as Rivka-Layeh bas Akiva and her yahrzeit as 17 Sivan. They preserve her husband's name as R' Yosef-Matisyahu ben Yaakov. The spellings vary across the correspondence - Layeh, Leah and related forms; Matisyahu and Matis'yoohee - and each form remains useful when searching records.

3

The connection to the Shapiro family

The family tree records Raizel Elka, known as Rosalie Teller, as the daughter of Rivka Leah and Yosef Mattisyahu Teller and as the wife of Emanuel Shapiro. This is where the Teller branch joins the Shapiro branch in Blima Chaya's family.

Can someone in the family check Sefer Oshpitsin, page 611?

If you have a copy of Sefer Oshpitsin (the Oshpitzin/Oshpetzin yizkor book), please photograph page 611, the Schnitzer family article, including the page number and heading, and share the images with the family. We are trying to learn more about Shmuel Schnitzer and his wife Sara, especially their daughter Reizel, Lola Teller's mother. The Teller family tree gives Sara's maiden name as Kempler. The memorial database lists her as Sara Lea; Lea is a middle name, not a surname, and may add to her recorded full name if that reading is right. Page 611 may help confirm her full name and the household. This is a request for a source, not a change to the family tree. Other findings and open questions remain on the site.

The English online translation stops before page 611. The National Library of Israel lists physical copies, but no online scan of this page has been found. If an online image or a family copy turns up, we can read it and update this question.

What remains open

The chart is a family-compiled source, not a substitute for civil or religious records. The European place name, dates, and earlier parent-child links still need record-by-record corroboration. Schenker material remains separate from Teller material until each connection is sourced.

Living relatives belong in the family record. Private contact details, exact addresses and private file links are not exposed merely because a relative is included.

The full reconciled family chart

The family spreadsheet has been reconciled row by row. All 228 nonblank spreadsheet rows plus Boruch Ber's direct correction are represented; life status is metadata, not an omission criterion.

Beth Moses records Lola Teller’s death on 15 June 2014, age 94, and burial in section 2, block 18, row 8, grave 4. This independently matches the family’s 17 Sivan yahrzeit; the cemetery record does not itself prove her parentage.
